Cardio
How to use
Choose an activity that you want to do again
Do you like going out? Try cycling, running or a brisk walk on a pleasant route. Do you prefer a fixed frame? The swimming pool or a room machine may be suitable. A team sport can also provide real cardiovascular work. Choose above all according to pleasure, access and your schedule: an activity that you repeat is worth more than a perfect method on paper.
Start with a simple format
If you are starting with little activity, two or three slots of fifteen to twenty minutes during the week are a practical start. Maintain a pace that you can maintain without ending up exhausted; When running, alternate walking and running if necessary. Then gradually lengthen the outings and also add up the active trips, until you get closer to the weekly recommendations.
Measure the effort with your breath
At moderate intensity, you breathe faster but can still speak in sentences; singing becomes difficult. During intense exercise, you only say a few words before catching your breath. These benchmarks are enough to get started without a watch or calculation of zones. Start slowly for a few minutes, then adopt the planned pace rather than suddenly accelerating from the start.
Make room for cardio during the week
Set times that are easy to find and prepare what makes leaving easier: outfit ready, known route or meeting with a friend. A bike ride or a sports outing can replace a gym session. If you're strength training, place the most leg-strenuous efforts at a time that lets you recover before your next big session.
First increase the duration or frequency when your routine becomes easy to maintain. You can then accelerate further if you wish. Avoid changing all the parameters at once: you will know better what you are recovering and what makes you progress. Simply follow the duration, the journey and the feeling; repeating the same journey with less out of breath is already concrete progress.
Split remains an option
The split alternates more sustained periods and recoveries. It can effectively build endurance and provide variety, but you can get a good foundation without HIIT. If this method appeals to you, add it after having established a regular practice, with controlled accelerations rather than maximal sprints. Keep enough recovery to maintain good sessions the rest of the week.
