Dental scaling

Summary

Effectiveness

3/3

Descaling removes hard deposits that the brush can no longer remove. The visual change depends on their quantity and the stains present; it does not whiten the natural color of teeth.

Accessibility

2/3

A routine treatment, partly covered by Health Insurance, but which requires an appointment and travel. The frequency depends on your tartar buildup and your gums.

Scaling removes hard deposits stuck to the teeth, especially near the gums and behind the lower incisors. It is done at the dentist: once the plaque has transformed into tartar, brushing is no longer enough to remove it. Cleaning can also remove surface stains and make the smile clearer, without changing the natural color of the teeth.

Have the need assessed during your checks rather than choosing a fixed frequency yourself. Between appointments, brush your teeth twice a day and clean the spaces between your teeth to limit the return of deposits. Do not try to scrape tartar with an instrument purchased online: the areas to be treated are sometimes barely visible, even under the gums.
