Facial exercises

How to use

Choose an area and learn the movement

To start, focus on the cheeks rather than accumulating exercises for each part of the face. Make the first movements in front of a mirror, with clean hands and light pressure. Aim to feel the cheeks contract without clenching your teeth or pulling the skin tightly. The precision of the gesture matters more than a maximum grimace.

Cheek elevation

Open your mouth to form an O shape and fold your upper lip over your teeth. Smile to lift the cheeks, then release before starting again. Place your fingers lightly on their upper part to feel the movement, without pulling them upwards. This exercise uses the “Cheek Lifter” presented by Northwestern in the program studied.

Smile with cheek support

Smile without showing your teeth, then look to lift your cheek muscles. Place the fingers near the corners and slide them towards the top of the cheeks, without strong traction; hold the position for about twenty seconds, then release. This variation uses “Happy Cheeks Sculpting”. It is used to work on a sustained contraction, with a comfortable muscular sensation.

A routine you can stick to

As a practical starting point, choose three sessions per week and a few controlled repetitions of each exercise. This simplified format is used to learn and install regularity; it has not been validated as an optimal protocol. Associate the session with a stable time, such as the evening routine, and note the sessions done to track your consistency.

The best-known pilot study used a more comprehensive program: thirty minutes a day for eight weeks, then every other day for up to twenty weeks. This provides a benchmark for the investment studied, without requiring you to reproduce this pace exactly. Gradually increase the practice time if the movements remain comfortable and you can stick to the routine.

Evaluate changes at rest

Take full-frontal and three-quarter-length photos before you start, and then about once a month, with the same lighting, distance, and relaxed expression. Give yourself several months to judge progress. A stronger smile during exercise is not enough: the desired result also concerns the cheeks and contours when the face is at rest.

Material and comfort

You can get started manually without purchasing a device. Some devices have been studied, but their results do not prove the effectiveness of all accessories sold under the “face yoga” label. Learning the movements first allows you to build a simple routine and see what type of work you prefer.
