Quitting alcohol
Summary
Our recommendation is to stop drinking alcohol. It provides calories, can disrupt sleep and recovery, and increases several health risks, including certain cancers. Wine, beer and spirits all contain ethanol: changing the drink does not eliminate the problem. For a physical routine, the benefit of stopping is particularly interesting when consumption is regular or heavy.
Prepare your alternatives and the situations where you usually drink, then observe your sleep, energy and spending. The face or weight may change, without a guaranteed timetable. If you drink a lot every day or have tremors, sweats or discomfort when you delay a drink, prepare to stop with a professional: sudden withdrawal can be dangerous in the event of physical dependence.
