Teeth whitening

Summary

Effectiveness

3/3

Proper treatment can significantly lighten natural teeth. The result depends on the initial coloring; crowns, veneers and composites do not whiten the same way.

Accessibility

2/3

The treatment requires an appointment, a budget and sometimes several weeks of at-home aligners. It remains simple to follow once the protocol has been established with the dentist.

Tooth whitening lightens the color of teeth using a gel, usually peroxide-based. For a visible change adapted to your mouth, start with a check-up at the dentist: a cleaning may be enough if the discomfort comes mainly from surface stains. Otherwise, he can suggest treatment in the office or trays to use at home according to his instructions.

Aim for a shade that you like without necessarily looking for a bright white: slightly ivory teeth can be perfectly healthy. The main disadvantages are sensitivity to cold and irritation of the gums, often temporary. Avoid lemon recipes, charcoal rubs and concentrated gels purchased without supervision; they are not a shortcut to a better outcome.
