Bimatoprost
How to use
Check if treatment is justified
Start by clarifying the cause if the eyelashes have become sparse, especially in the event of recent loss, irritation or new asymmetry. A growth drug does not address all of these issues. Tell the doctor about your eye treatments, your history and the desired result: a few more visible eyelashes do not necessarily justify prolonged exposure to a medication. In particular, report inflammation of the eye, eye surgery or treatment for glaucoma: bimatoprost also affects the pressure in the eye, which may require appropriate monitoring.
Go through the medical circuit
Check which bimatoprost preparations and indications are approved where you live. Your clinician should choose the exact medicine, application method and monitoring; an eye-drop indication is not automatically an eyelash indication. Where off-label treatment is considered, it requires an individual medical decision and is neither automatic nor guaranteed. Do not use an unverified online seller to bypass this assessment.
Follow the prescribed product protocol
If a treatment is chosen, follow the instructions specific to the product and the prescriber. For Latisse, the American instructions describe application to the edge of the upper eyelid with sterile disposable applicators, and not to the lower line. This protocol should not be transposed to any eye drops, nor should the frequency be increased to accelerate the result.
Evaluate the result and tolerance
Arrange a check-up appointment from the start and take photos in comparable light. The main trial notably evaluated the result at sixteen weeks: changing the quantity after a few days does not allow effectiveness to be judged. The follow-up must also focus on the comfort of the eyes and the appearance of the eyelids, not just the length of the eyelashes.
Inform the prescriber in the event of persistent irritation, new pigmentation or hollowing around the eyes. Eye pain or decreased vision requires rapid assessment. Also discuss continuing treatment: results on eyelashes diminish after stopping, while browning of the iris may be permanent.
